The Jedi order is ancient, spanning well over a thousand generations. As the Galactic Republic throve and grew over the centuries, the Jedi came to serve it as guardians of peace and justice. That is, until the Sith Lord, Palpatine, assumed the title of Emperor, destroying the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order that had served her for twenty five millenia.

Keeper of the Jedi histories, Feeal Kaille, originally encoded this section of the Holo-Archive one thousand years after the Great Sith War. Jedi Knight Nick Tarwin added to this history to keep it current in accordance with modern revelations concerning past events. Jedi Knight Alexandra Tillet has compiled the history of the new Jedi; you may find the exploits of the latest generation to serve the Light Side of the Force in her Chronicles.

To become a Jedi required the deepest commitment and most serious mind. It was not a venture to be undertaken lightly. As such, Jedi instruction was rigidly structured and codified to enforce discipline and hinder transgression. A Jedi who failed in his training would be a very serious threat. The Dark Side of the Force beckoned to the impatient, and students in the past have been lured to its seductive call with devastating consequences.

Throughout the millennia, the Jedi Code has evolved. While the Code contained many layers of interpretation and information, at its core it read as follows:

There is no emotion; there is peace.
There is no ignorance; there is knowledge.
There is no passion; there is serenity.
There is no death; there is the Force.

The Jedi followed this Code rigorously. Deviation from it tended to lead to the Dark Side.

The Jedi dressed in simple robes and carried specialized field gear for their missions. Their signature weapon, the lightsaber, was both elegant and deadly when in the hands of a trained master.
